A weakness for the early recordings of Duran Duran
What Duran Duran have to do with an indie/alternative/post-rock/power-pop musician-singer-songwriter like me?
I try to explain…
I remember two records constantly on the turntable when i was 10 years old: “Led Zeppelin II” and “Duran Duran” (the debut album, 1981).
A weird couple, isn’t it?
Back then (1985) I was not aware about LZ place in rock history, I was not aware of “Duranmania”…. I knew nothing about drums, chords, world tours, sex-drugs&rock n’ roll… I was “virgin”, let’s say so… I simply found those vinyls amongst others at home…one of the various benefits coming from being the youngest of 5 brothers.
Jimmy Page’s riffs, John Bonham powerful drumming, the whole incredible LZ musical package sounded to me as interesting and exciting as Nick Rhodes’ synth layering, John Taylor / Roger Taylor’s punky-funky rhythmic ensemble.
It was just music to me!
Different colors, different feelings but just nice music in the end.
Listening without prejudice every kind of music has been my dogma since then.
That’s why I got so many musical styles embedded in me, that’s why luftbrucke music covers a wide range of musical gradients and… that’s why Duran Duran are so important to me, even now, 25 years later.
